Almost 4o years of practice as a Registered Nurse was eye-opening, fascinating, adventuresome, supportive, informative, and most definitely growth-producing. My career is where the bulk of my stories come from. The analogies with just plain old living life, are real. Particularly for me, the issue of being careful with assumptions, even in the fact-based medical field! Check out the video on the Home Page, for an example!
My first book, ‘Hood Medical: This Is Why I Sing
Over a 40 year span, my nursing experiences include General Med/Surg, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Surgical Intensive Care Units, and Hemodialysis, all the way to Homecare Supervision, Public School nursing, and even Camp Ho Mita Koda for Type 1 insulin dependent diabetic children. Oh, and not to forget, the wonderful opportunity to dialyze several passengers on a cruise ship so they could enjoy a 7-night cruise to Alaska, AND my Reiki Master level training. I’m grateful for ALL OF IT.
On a non-clinical level, I’ve worked as a trainer for Magellan Health, speaking on topics such as Stress Management and Change Management, and a CISM (Critical Incident Stress Manager) for emergencies or tragic incidents affecting the site’s employees, for corporations such as DFAS, the IRS, Eaton Corp, law firms, and more.
